FESTIVAL DIRECTOR: JENNY LEE
Welcome. Come on in. Dig deeper. Let”s wade through the drama, the character arcs, the suspense and the syntax and discover what we already know – that stories are the tools we use to bare our souls to the world. Hidden behind mind-blowing creativity, eye-popping cinematography and resonant sound technology is a fundamental vulnerability that drives true intimacy and empathy. Stories connect us at the deepest parts of our being with the most unlikely people, places and circumstances and, in so doing, they transform our lives.
The I Will Tell International Film Festival runs in the UK and the USA to amplify the voices of the unheard, shine a light on stories that would otherwise go untold, inspire festival goers and bring ordinary and extraordinary issues of our lives into focus in a way that is positive and meaningful.
We live in a world that is becoming increasingly polarised with invisible barriers between groups that make up our global society. Important voices that could help challenge and shape our society are denied access to their share of the global narrative and we are denied the benefit of hearing their voice. I Will Tell ensures we all get a seat at the table, giving us insight into the lives of the Other, breaking down barriers and building bridges of hope.
The name of the festival comes from a word spoken in the Senna dialect Ndinadsawapanga (pronounced Nah-jah-pang-ga). Many years ago, festival director Jenny Lee met Anel, a young girl living on the plains of Thoera while on a mission trip to northern Mozambique. Anel desperately wanted the opportunity to go to school but girls in her village were not allowed an education. Shy but undaunted she declared a phrase that has resonated across the world over the years – I Will Tell. The festival shows high quality independent films from around the world followed by enriching and challenging post-screening discussions with filmmakers, country ambassadors, grassroots activists, international speakers and most importantly, you – an ordinary person with an extraordinary story.
I Will Tell uniquely and effectively capitalises on the power of story to provide one of the most life-transforming events in the global film calendar. Join us as we continue to tell stories that amplify the voices of the unheard around the world, and find out just how extraordinary we really are.
