My Story
Claudia Webbe, the former Member of Parliament for Leicester East is a lifelong socialist, anti-war, anti-imperialist and pro-Palestine campaigner forged in the struggles of Britain’s Black and working-class communities. Born in Leicester during a period of racism, poverty, and far-right terror, she was shaped by grassroots resistance from the Asian women’s strike at Imperial Typewriters to the uprisings against racist policing in the 1980s. She went on to found and lead major anti-racist organisations, linking race and class struggles in Britain to international movements for justice and liberation.
As one of the first Black women to advise a directly elected Mayor of London, Claudia helped drive forward a radical cultural and internationalist agenda at City Hall. Later, as Islington’s lead on environment and transport, she pioneered community energy and climate justice projects. Elected MP for Leicester East (2019–2024), she stood firmly against war, racism, austerity, and Britain’s complicity in Israeli occupation and genocide – carrying the demands of social movements into a hostile Parliament.
Alongside elected roles, Claudia has led Pan-African and grassroots organisations including the 1990 Trust and Operation Trident, exposing how state violence and systemic racism devastate working-class communities. She now serves on the board of the Marx Memorial Library, advancing Marxist thought and internationalist struggle, rooted in the conviction that liberation will only come through the collective power of workers, anti-racists, feminists, and movements for peace worldwide.
