(Director: Danyelle Greene & Abimbola Iyun)

Two Black women with PhDs reflect on what it means for them to “work twice as hard” in academic spaces. Abimbola Iyun, PhD and Danyelle Greene, PhD are grad school colleagues exploring the intergenerational politics of Black hair through their personal experiences, conversations, and performances. “Black Hair Is Political” connects their daily reflections on their own hair with historical conversations about and representations of Black hair in the US.

“Documenting Twice As Hard: Black Hair Is Political” is an expressive, creative, and academic exercise in personal filmmaking and autoethnography–connecting the “I” (of our personal experiences) to the “we” (of common social and cultural concerns).
