FESTIVAL | COMMUNITY CHESS

Whether you're an amateur or experienced chess player, even if you have never played chess in your life before, our Community Chess event has something for you.

On Saturday 27 August betweeen 2pm and 5pm, we are bringing a Chess Master to the Walthamstow community to host a simultaneous exhibition game with up to 10 players at a time.

All those who play a good game wll be presented with a gift at the Opening Gala screening on Tuesday 30 August. The best player will be presented with a chess set signed by Eugene Brown at the Opening Gala ceremony on Tuesday 30 August. Eugene Brown is the gentleman who used chess to transform his community and on whose life the opening gala film LIFE OF A KING is based.

For the non-chess player there will be a giant chess game with a guide on hand to teach you how it works and a very special twist: every move of a piece is connected to the story of a hero from the Black community or other under-represented group, which you get to take home with you.

The giant chess game is free. To guarantee your place on the simultaneous 10 board display, book your ticket here for just £10:
